Abstract:This study was designed to explore the effects of Maca on IL-1β,IL-2,IL-6,IL-8 and immune related cells in high-fat diet rats.Total of 40 rats (2-month-old,160 g± 10 g) were selected as the experimental subjects and fed with high-fat diet, then randomly divided into 4 groups:control group (a),Maca intervention group (b),exercise intervention group (c),Maca plus exercise intervention group (d),with 10 rats in each group. The rats in group d were treated with 6 weeks of training and maca intervention, and then anaesthetized and decapitated for blood collection.ELISA was used to detect the levels of IL-1β,IL-2,IL-6,IL-8 and immunological indicators in the blood.Data showed that the levels of IL-1β and IL-8 in rats of groups b,c,d,and the level of IL-6 in rats of groups b and c were significantly improved (P<0.01 or P<0.05),but the level of IL-12 was significantly reduced (P< 0.05) in rats of groups b and c and showed no statistical difference in rats of group d (P>0.05),as ompared with group a.Compared to group b,group d demonstrated significantly higher levels of L-1β and IL-8 (P<0.05),lower level of IL-6 and higer level of IL-2 (P>0.05).While groups c and d did not show any difference in the levels of indicated interleukin (P>0.05).Compared with group a,white blood cell (WBC) in group c,WBC and basophils (BA) in group d,eosinophils (EO) in group b were decreased significantly (P<0.05),while EO in group c and d and neutrophil (NE) in group d were declined significantly P<0.01).Compared with group b,the number of NE,EO and BA in group d decreased significantly (P<0.05 or P< 0.01);compared with group c,the number of NE and BA in group d decreased significantly (P<0.05).In conclusion,Maca intervention can ameliorate the excessive levels of IL-1β,IL-6 and IL-8 caused by high-fat diet, reduce the level of IL-2,steady the level of white blood cell, thus improve the immune function of rats.
