Abstract:Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a chronic IgE-mediated nasal inflammatory disease characterized by rhinorrhea, sneezing, congestion after allergen exposure.AR is a global health problem and is increasing in prevalence worldwide.Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) has been recognized as the only therapy to date that modify the underlying cause of the disease by immunoregulatory mechanism, with proved long-term benefits.Although it was over a century of the AIT treatment, there has been substantial growth in developing novel AR therapies to conventional subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT).More studies need to be implemented before determining the efficacy and safety of these alternative AIT therapies. In this review, the progress of immunotherapy and the novel AIT therapies of AR is discussed.
