Abstract:Interleukins are considered as one of the most important regulators of innate and adaptive immunity-related diseases.Since the discovery in 2000,it has been indicated IL-22 plays a key role in epithelial cells of numerous tissues.IL-22 can be secreted by several kinds of immune cell subsets, and primarily targets non-hematopoietic epithelial and stromal cells.IL-22 can promote tissue proliferation and regeneration, and also regulate host mucosal barrier defense.However,IL-22 also makes the contribution of the pathologic tissue inflammation.Recent studies have demonstrated that IL-22 is a key component in a number of diseases including infection, autoimmune disease and tumor. In this review,we will summarize the functions and mechanisms of IL-22 in these diseases and discuss the potential treatment targeting IL-22 in human diseases.
