Therapeutic effect of erythropoietin on hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and its effect on serum level of MMP-9, IL-6 and TNF-α

Abstract：To study the effect of erythropoietin on hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and serum levels of MMP-9,IL-6 and TNF-α,total of 116 patients with HIE treated in our hospital from August 2012 to July 2016 were selected as subjects and divided into control and observation groups by coin toss.Fifty-six patients in the control group were treated by conventional therapy and 60 patients in observation group were treated with erythropoietin.The recovery time of muscle tone,consciousness disturbance and primary reflex,as well as the curative effect were analyzed and compared between the two groups;the levels of MMP-9,IL-6 and TNF-α in the serum before and after the treatment,and the cerebral hemodynamics parameters were compared between the two groups.After treatment,the total effective rate (91.7％) of observation group was significantly greater than that of control group (75.0％);the recovery time of muscle tone,recovery time of consciousness disturbance and recovery time of primary reflex were shorter in observation group than that in control group.The decrease range of serum MMP-9,IL-6 and TNF-α in the observation group were significantly greater than that in the control group before and after treatment.Furthermore,the expression of MMP-9 was decreased at the first time,and the peak systolic flow velocity (PSFV) and end diastolic flow velocity (EDFV) except the resistance index (RI) in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P＜0.05).In conclusion,erythropoietin has significant therapeutic effects on neonatal HIE,and serum levels of MMP-9,IL-6 and TNF-α are significant in early diagnosis and prognosis of HIE.
