Abstract:To investigate the expression of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) on neutrophils from the patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and analyze the clinical relevance to disease severity, the expression of PD-L1 on neutrophils from 54 RA patients and 52 healthy controls (HC) were examined by the technique of flow cytometry. The percentage of PD-L1 + neutrophils was compared between RA patients and HC,and also between inactive and active RA patients. Moreover, the correlation of PD-L1 + neutrophils with laboratory inspection was analyzed.Data showed that the percentage of PD-L1+ neutrophils from RA patients elevated significantly,as compared with HC (P=0.000 1),and the percentage of PD-L1 + neutrophils from active RA patients was significant higher than that of inactive ones (P=0.045 8).The percentages of PD-L1+ neutrophils in RA patients were positively associated with DAS28 (r2=0.081,P=0.037 2),CRP (r2=0.12,P=0.014 9) and ESR (r2=0.14,P=0.007 2).The frequency of PD-L1 + neutrophils in patients with RA was increased significantly in subjects with positive RF (P=0.006 9).Furthermore,the expression of ROS on PD-L1 + neutrophils was significantly increased compared to PD-L1+ neutrophils in RA patients. In conclusion, the aberration percentages of PD-L1+ neutrophil are observed in patients with RA,which correlate with disease activity and the production of antibody.
