Abstract:Inflammation plays an important role in the development and progression of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP),and the pathogenesis of inflammation in CRSwNP is not fully understood yet. This study was designed to observe the expression of scavenger receptor CD36 in chronic sinusitis with nasal polyps. The mRNA and protein expression of CD36 were detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blotting in 43 patients with chronic sinusitis. At the same time, the expression and distribution of CD36 were observed by immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence.RT-PCR and Western blot analysis showed that CD36 mRNA and protein expression were significantly increased in CRSwNP compared with normal nasal mucosa (P<0.05);immunohistochemical results showed that CD36 was weakly expressed in squamous cell and epithelial cells of chronic sinusitis, while strongly expressed in CRSwNP.The results of double staining of CD36 and vascular endothelial markers CD31 showed co-expression of CD36 and CD31.These data suggest that CD36 may play an important role in the development and progression of CRSwNP.
