Abstract:Inflammation resolution is an active process, and the failure of inflammation resolution could cause uncontrolled inflammation which underlies many chronic diseases.Atherosclerosis is one of the major health threat to human being and the cardinal signs of unstable atherosclerotic lesions are primarily characteristics of failed resolution of a chronic inflammation. The review here present an overview of mechanisms underlying inflammation resolution failure during atherosclerosis, including efferocytosis defect, leukocyte apoptosis failure, macrophage polarization unbalance and proresolving mediators absence, and provide an outlook for atherosclerosis treatment through promoting inflammation resolution.
