Vitamin D and systemic lupus erythematosus

Abstract:Vitamin D (Vit D) can regulate calcium and phosphorus metabolism,promoting intestinal calcium absorption and calcium mobilization,and also plays an important role in cell proliferation and differentiation as well as other aspects of immune regulation.It has been proved that Vit D is associated with rheumatoid arthritis,multiple sclerosis,systemic lupus erythematosus,Ⅰ diabetes and other autoimmune diseases;Vit D also involves in the development of autoimmune diseases by acting on T cells,dendritic cells and macrophages.Recently,the relationship between Vit D deficiency and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) disease activity has been studied extensively and supplemental doses has not reached a consensus.This review of the literature presents an analysis of the aspects related to the importance of Vit D for SLE,as well as the recommendations for Vit D supplementation in these patients.
