Abstract:Objective To explore the pathogenetic role of α1-ACT phenotypes in childhood asthma. Methods Pheno-
types of α1-ACT have been determined by isoelectric focusing on the polyacrylamide gel followed by immunofixation, the phe-
notypes of α1-ACT were investigated using this method in asthmatic and control groups. Results Three phenotypes of α1-ACT
were found in two groups. There was no difference in phenotype I and phenotype Ⅱ of α1-ACT between these two groups
(P>0. 05). Phenotype Ⅲ of α1-ACT in asthma group showed a higher prevalence than normal control group(P<0.01 ). Con-
clusion This study provides the evidence that phenotype Ⅲ of α1-ACT increases the risk of developing asthma during child-
hood.
