Abstract:Objective To observe the prevalence and clinical association of anticardiolipin antibodies(ACA)and the in- fluence of immunosuppressive therapy on titers of ACA in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods ACA(IgG, IgA, IgM)was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)in the serum sample of 87 patients of SLE. 17 cases of SLE had been tested on admission and 3 months after treatment with immunosuppressive therapy . Results The prevalence of ACAIgG,ACAIgA ,ACAIgM was respectively 62.1%,52.9%,35.6% in SLE. The titers of ACAIgG and ACAIgM were sig- nificantly and positively correlated with disease activity;ACAIgG,ACAIgA and ACAIgM were significantly and negatively correlated with complement C3 ,ACAIgG was significantly and negatively correlated with complement C4. With thrombosis, the titers of ACAIgA were higher than those without thrombosis. Among the patients with central nervous system involvement (CNS-SLE),ACAIgG and ACAIgM titers were significantly higher than those without CNS-SLE. There is a significant differ- ence between the means of ACA titers of 17 SLE on admission and three months after treatment. Conclusions ACA titers were positively correlated with disease activity. With thrombosis, the titers of ACAIgA were higher. With CNS-SLE,ACAIgG and ACAIgM titers were higher. Immunosuppressive therapy decreases the ACA titers of SLE.
