Stability analysis on the multi-stage slopes using variable search dimension strategy
Abstract:Aiming to enhance the efficiency of general strategy for the local stability analysis of multi-stage slopes, the search strategy with variable dimension and harmony search algorithm were adopted for the determination of minimum factor of safety and critical slip surface for the multi-stage slopes. Search strategy with variable dimension meant that the whole search range of the multi-stage slope was divided into several local ranges and that several local dangerous slip surfaces were obtained from local ranges respectively. The local dangerous slip surfaces were taken as the initial harmonies in the harmony search algorithm. The effect of parameters for the new strategy on the calculating results was discussed and the comparison of results by general strategy, new strategy and strength reduction finite element method were performed. It is demonstrated that the new strategy is strong in search efficiency and search precision.
