Tested and modeled shear stress-displacement behavior of soil-structure interface
Abstract:In order to properly understand mechanical behavior of soil-structure interface, laboratory tests on the interface were carried out by using improved direct shear apparatus in consideration four water contents, and analysis on its stress-displacement model was conducted based on mathematical property points.Investigated test data show that:① shear strength of soil-rock interface and soil itself decreases with higher water content, but that of soil-brick interface increases first and then decreases after reaching one peak value;② shear strength of soil-rock interface is completely smaller than that of soil itself;③ magnitude relationship of shear strength between soil-brick interface and soil itself is uncertain, and it varies with increasing soil water content. On the other hand,a new composite-exponent model to describe interface stress-displacement curve was established, which overcame the weakness of conventional model and was available for both hardening and softening type of stress-displacement curves. Finally, comparison between tests data and new model simulations is performed, and good agreements are found.
