Abstract:The tooth contact and load distribution of involute helical gears were analyzed by means of finite element analysis (FEA) instead of traditional mechanical method. First, the model created accurately by UG was led to Patran & Nastran. Secondly, the face-contact model of gears was established according to the deformation compatibility condition and force equilibrium relationship. Then the face-contact analog modeling was used to determine the dangerous cross-section and position of the worst load line according to the practical situation. When the face load of 300 MPa was applied, the maximal bending stress distributed near the root of the gear tooth where the worst load line appeared, and the stress value is 208 MPa. At last, the modal analysis and light weight optimization were carried out for the gears, the results show that the worst load is reduced.
