Abstract:; The sulfur retention performances of five types of alkaline industrial wastes and a type of limestone werestudied in coal burning experiments, including the effect of coordination and modification of sorbents on the sulfur retention. The influences of the pore structure and composition of sorbents on the sulfur retention capability were discussed. The results show that at the combustion temperature of 900~1 000 t higher sulfur retention efficiencies are obtained with the carbide slag and white mud compared with the limestone, but lower sulfur retention efficiencies are achieved with alkali slag, red mud and salt mud. The modification with ethanol and acetic acid can improve the sulfur retention performance at the combustion temperature of about 900 t. With the increase of combustion temperature, the improvement effect of ethanol reduces, instead the modification with acetic acid weakens the sulfur retention capability of sorbents except for red mud. To optimize the compound of alkaline wastes and limestone can enhance the sulfur retention efficiency and utilization of the sorbents.
