Abstract:The study systematically explores the diversity of water hazards in the roof aquifer during coal mining in northwest China and their impact on mining activities. The water hazards faced by coal development in this region include multiple models such as single thick aquifer filling, strong recharge aquifer filling, and sudden water and sand bursting, among which the complex hydraulic connections between multiple aquifers are one of the key factors.Based on typical hydrogeological conditions of mines, the water hazard risk of the roof aquifer in No.11 and No.9 coals was evaluated by integrating underground drainage data, changes in water levels of surrounding hydrological holes, and mining conditions of the working face. After three months of drainage, the study discovered that the No.11 coal roof aquifer had an average drop in water level of 31.29 meters and an inflow rate of almost 0 m3/h,indicating both strong dewatering potential and poor recharge circumstances. In contrast, the average water level of the aquifer in the roof of No.9 coal decreased by 9.32 meters, and the water inflow after long-term drainage was 4 m3/h,indicating better recharge conditions, but limited drainage potential.By analyzing the water level balance state of the aquifer, the drainage standards for the roof aquifer of No.9 and No.11 coals in the first mining face were proposed, providing a scientific basis for the prevention and control of water hazards in future mining faces in the min-ing area.
