Abstract:Green finance plays an important role in the green transformation of industry, the formation of green consumption concept and the realization of sustainable economic development. It is of great significance to study the impact of digital divide on the development of green finance.Based on the panel data of 283 prefecture level cities in China from 2003 to 2022,this study empirically investigates the impact and spatial effect of the digital divide on the development of green finance. The results show that the digital divide significantly inhibits the development of green finance, and the results are still valid after passing a series of robustness tests. The impact mechanism research shows that the digital divide affects the development of green finance by hindering digital infrastructure, green technology innovation and the improvement of human capital. The results of spatial econometric model show that the digital divide has a significant inhibitory effect on the development of local green finance, and there is also a"local adjacent"information barrier effect. The heterogeneity test analysis shows that the impact of the digital divide in the central and western regions on the development of green finance is relatively strong, while the"inhibitory effect"in the eastern region is not obvious. In addition, green finance is highly sensitive to policy changes in the development process. In view of this, this study puts forward relevant suggestions from three aspects:governance mechanism, coordinated development and policy improvement.
