Abstract:This paper utilizes the quasi-natural experiment of establishing a new energy demonstration city, employing data from A-share non-financial listed companies from 2011-2022 to examine the impact of the energy transition policy on the level of firms' new quality productivity. The findings indicate that the new energy model city policy can significantly boost the new quality productivity level of enterprises, and the policy's promoting role remains robust over time. The heterogeneity analysis reveals that the policy effect of the new energy model city policy in promoting the new quality productivity of enterprises is more significant within non-highly polluting enterprises, while different types of technological industries do not affect the significance of the effect of the role of the new energy model city policy. However, the effect of the new energy model city policy within technology-intensive industries is more significant in non-highly polluting enterprises. The mechanism analysis revealed that the new energy demonstration city policy is the primary mechanism for achieving new productivity enhancement in new energy demonstration cities, characterized by the advancement of enterprise performance levels and green innovation.
