Abstract:Under the carbon reduction strategy of China's ecological civilization construction, the traditional energy industry urgently needs to achieve sustainable development through green transformation. This study empirically analyzes the impact of ESG(Environmental,Social, and Governance)performance on corporate environmental performance, exploring the mediating role of green innovation and heterogeneous effects of environmental regulations, using data from 2012 to 2022 A-share listed companies in coal, petroleum, natural gas, power, and water supply industries. The findings reveal that ESG performance significantly enhances corporate environmental performance, with green innovation playing a partial mediating role. The inhibitory effect of ESG performance on energy consumption proves more pronounced in regions with stringent environmental regulations. The study confirms that strengthening ESG practices and increasing green innovation investment constitute crucial pathways for traditional energy enterprises' low-carbon transition, while governments should refine differentiated environmental regulation policies to incentivize corporate green transformation.
