Abstract:As a significant coal-producing region in China,Xinjiang is endowed with substantial coal reserves and plays a pivotal role in ensuring national energy security in light of the dual-carbon objective.Coal gasification represents a significant technological advancement in the utilization of coal, facilitating the low-carbon transformation of the coal chemical industry and offering a viable approach to optimizing the national energy structure. This paper analyses the economic costs and social benefits of coal gasification based on the unique resource endowment of Xinjiang. It reveals the advantages and challenges of coal gasification in Xinjiang by comparing the cost competitiveness between the origin and the end market. The findings of the study indicate that the cost of converting Xinjiang's Zhundong coal chemical products at the source is highly competitive. However, the transportation bottleneck associated with the product's distance from the eastern consumer market represents a significant constraint on future growth. This paper presents recommendations for the advancement of the coal industry in Xinjiang, encompassing policy support, technological advancement, and transportation optimization. These recommendations are designed to facilitate the cleaner utilization of coal in alignment with China's dual-carbon objective.
