The impact of government environmental attention on the green transition of the power industry
XU Xiaochun
Abstract:Under the global climate change context and China's"Dual Carbon"goals(carbon peaking and carbon neutrality),the power industry,as a primary source of carbon emissions, plays a pivotal role in achieving sustainable development through its green transition.Government environmental attention,a critical determinant of environmental governance, may significantly drive the power industry's green transition, yet the relationship between the two remains underexplored.Leveraging panel data from 31 Chinese provinces(2013-2022),this study employs textual analysis to quantify government environmental attention and applies a fixed-effects model to empirically examine its impact on the power industry's green transition. The findings indicate:① Government environmental attention significantly accelerates the green transition of the power sector,a conclusion robust to rigorous sensitivity analyses;② Heterogeneity analysis reveals that this positive effect is more pronounced in eastern and central regions but statistically insignificant in western regions, likely attributable to disparities in regional economic development and energy structures.
