Abstract:The development of new quality productive forces has led to changes in production relations, giving rise to digital space.Based on the panel data of China's provinces, this paper sets up digital distance weight matrices, and uses various analytical techniques such as time-varying spatial econometric models to verify the existence of digital space from the perspective of carbon emissions spillover, and empirically examines the digital spatial effect of carbon emissions and spillover mechanisms. The research findings are as follows:he distance decay effect is not fully established in digital space, yet the spatial distance does not vanish, and fundamental laws of geography remain operative in digital space.Meanwhile, under the influence of digital space production, the spatial concentration level of carbon emissions in digital space displays an initial pattern of weak concentration followed by a pronounced strengthening, and Carbon emissions in digital space are characterized by positive agglomeration, and the spillover effects change from negative spillover to positive spillover. The economic competition motive of carbon reduction is stronger than the cooperative development motive.Further analysis confirms that there is a significant asymmetric effect of carbon emissions in digital space, virtual agglomeration and factor integration in digital space are important driving mechanisms to realize coordinated carbon reduction.
