Digital economy and energy intensity:Impact effects and mechanisms of action

Abstract：The digital economy has become an important driving force for reducing energy intensity and helping to achieve the"dual carbon"goal.Based on the panel data of 30 provincial(municipalities and autonomous regions)in China from 2013-2021,this paper explores the effect of the development of digital economy on energy intensity.The empirical results show that the development of digital economy has a significant effect on reducing energy intensity,technological innovation and fixed asset investment play an intermediary effect and a moderating effect,respectively,the inhibition effect of digital economy on energy intensity shows a marginal increasing effect,digital industrialization and industrial digitalization can effectively reduce energy intensity,and the impact of digital industrialization on energy intensity has significant nonlinear characteristics,and the inhibition effect of digital economy on energy intensity has heterogeneous characteristics.
