Study on thebackpressure issue in horizontal section of L-type CBM drilling

Abstract：With the wide application of L-type drilling,the backpressure issue during the drilling of horizontal well section has become a major factor affecting the smooth construction of horizontal well.The backpressure issue not only affects the drilling efficiency of the drilling rig,but also is an important precipitating factor for drilling accidents.The backpressure issue is mainly caused by the friction between the drilling tool and the wellbore.The factors affecting the backpressure issue mainly include geological structure,well cleanliness and friction coefficient of drilling fluid.In this paper,the backpressure issue occurred in the L-shaped horizontal well section of MFD-13-L1 drilling hole in the east of Mafang,Shanxi Province,is taken as an example for research,and corresponding solutions are proposed,hoping to provide reference for the drilling technology of horizontal wells in the future,so as to reduce the probability of the backpressure issue and avoid the occurrence of drilling accidents.
