Abstract:Under the goal of"dual carbon",giving full play to the role of the digital economy in reducing industrial carbon emission intensity is of great significance for achieving green and low-carbon industrial development.Using panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2011 to 2022,a spatial econometric model was introduced to investigate the impact and transmission mechanism of the digital economy on industrial carbon emission intensity. The study found that the development of digital economy can not only reduce the intensity of industrial carbon emissions in the province, but also reduce the intensity of industrial carbon emissions in neighboring provinces through spillover effects. The digital economy exerts varying degrees of inhibitory effects on industrial carbon emission intensity by enhancing green technological progress and promoting industrial structure upgrading. From the direct effect, the inhibitory effect of digital economy on industrial carbon emission intensity in the central and western regions is stronger than that in the eastern regions. From the perspective of spatial spillover effects, the digital economy has a stronger negative spillover effect on industrial carbon emission intensity in eastern regions.
