Theoretical mechanism and implementation path of the construction of low-carbon pilot cities promoting Chinese high-quality exports

Abstract:In response to climate change and to promote low-carbon development,China has implemented low-carbon pilot cities policy since 2010.Under the goals of high-quality economic development and creating trade competitiveness,whether the construction of low-carbon cities policy can promote high-quality exports was worthy of deep consideration.This paper discussed the impact mechanism of low-carbon pilot cities on high-quality exports,and then verified the policy effect adopting multi-period DID approach and mediation pathways with the data of 281 prefecture-level cities from 2006 to 2020.The results showed that the construction of low-carbon pilot cities significantly promoted high-quality exports in China,with the main promoting paths including industrial structure and technology innovation effect,while cost effect inhibited export quality to certain extent.
