Abstract:Controlling carbon emissions from coal development is a critical component of China's carbon neutrality goals.Accurate monitoring and accounting of carbon emissions serve as the essential foundation for implementing effective carbon reduction technologies.Using the life cycle assessment method and the conventional process flow of underground coal mining,we analyzed the primary sources and accounting boundaries of methane emissions during coal development.Focusing on methane(CH4)as a key emission source,we summarized existing carbon accounting models and their methodologies for methane calculation. In alignment with China's"dual-carbon"development strategy and the outcomes of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference(COP28),we identified current challenges and technical issues in methane calculation methods for coal mine carbon accounting.Methane emissions from underground mining and post-mining activities were highlighted as critical monitoring targets, major contributors to carbon accounting deviations, and key areas for future refinement in monitoring and accounting practices. We also analyzed existing monitoring challenges and proposed future technological development directions for underground coal mines.
