Abstract:To study the damage characteristics of concrete with different coarse aggregate sizes, uniaxial compression tests were carried out on 6 groups of concrete specimens with 4.75~9.50 mm,9.50~16.00 mm,16.00~19.00 mm,19.00~26.50 mm,26.50~31.50 mm and continuous particle sizes by using acoustic emission(AE)and digital image correlation(DIC)technology.Damage information of the entire failure process of the concrete specimens was collected in real-time from both micro-scale and macro-scale.Damage evaluation model for concrete specimens with different coarse aggregate sizes was established based on AE energy count. The results show that based on the evolution laws of the AE energy count and b value, the damage process of 6 groups of concrete specimens can be divided into 3 damage stages:the initial stage, the cracks stable development stage, and the cracks rapid expansion stage. The displacement cloud diagrams captured by DIC technology can explain the micro-scale information of AE parameters from macro-scale and provide a strong basis for the classification of damage stages under uniaxial compression. The concrete specimens with different coarse aggregate sizes exhibit variations in internal structure, which affect the rate of rapid crack propagation in concrete. The established damage evaluation model can effectively characterize the damage stages of concrete with different coarse aggregate sizes, and realize quantitative analysis and evaluation.
