Abstract:To address the progressive instability of soft rock dump slopes in open-pit coal mines under multi-factor coupling(self-weight,rainfall,blasting vibration,freeze-thaw),take the south external dump of Zahanao'er Open-pit Coal Mine as a case, based on rigid body limit equilibrium methods,FLAC3D finite difference method, and particle discrete element method, the slope failure mechanism and stability coefficient are systematically revealed. The results show that the slope exhibits dual failure modes—subsidence-sliding failure along quaternary weak layers and circular shear failure in dumped material zones.Under extreme conditions, the comprehensive safety factor is 1.20~1.25,meeting the long-term stability criteria for external dumps specified in relevant codes.Discrete element dynamic simulation predicts a maximum sliding distance of 4.3 m,volume of 9 690 m3,and velocity of 0.4~0.7 m/s,posing no impact on surrounding structures. The outcomes provide an accurate basis for safety assessments of structures near dump sites and serve as a reference for stability evaluation of external dumps and construction planning in similar mines.
