Abstract:The article carries out site investigation on the hydrogeology, the water content of loess and the drainage system in Pingshuo East Open-pit Mine. The mechanical parameters of loess such as density, Yang's modulus, cohesion and internal friction angle are tested when the water content is 15%, 20% and 25% respectively. The results show that when the water content of loess changes from 15% to 25%, the weight of loess increases, the Yang's modulus decreases significantly, the cohesion decreases significantly and the internal friction angle decreases significantly. Water content of loess has a significant impact on operating costs and slope stability in the open-pit mine. The water content of waste loess should be as low as possible under the conditions of meeting environmental protection and land reclaiming from the view of dump safety and economy.
