A qualitative study on the participation willingness and influencing factors of caregivers of elderly stroke patients in the discharge plan

Abstract:Objective To explore the participation willingness and influencing factors of caregivers of elderly stroke patients in the discharge plan during hospitalization.Methods A total of 13 caregivers of elderly stroke patients hospital-ized in the department of neurology of Chenggong Hospital of Kunming Yan'an Hospital was selected,using the purposive and consecutive combination sampling methods.A descriptive qualitative research method was adopted.Data were collect-ed through face-to-face semi-structured interviews,and the directed content analysis method was used to analyze the partic-ipation willingness and influencing factors of caregivers of elderly stroke patients in the discharge plan during hospitaliza-tion.Results A total of 3 themes and 11 sub-themes were extracted from the participation willingness and influencing factors of caregivers of elderly stroke patients in the discharge plan.They are respectively diversity of caregivers'participa-tion willingness(positive participation tendency,negative participation tendency,neutral stance),the influencing factors of participation willingness complex(insufficient information support,lack of symptom recognition knowledge,absence of professional caregiving skills,multiple burdens,equating disease care with daily life care,and cognitive biases rooted in dual perspectives),enhancement pathways encompass(clinician-led empowerment strategies,policy and resource integra-tion support,psychological empowerment,patient self-management enablement,and emergency medical intervention pro-tocols).Conclusions During hospitalization,there are various types of willingness of caregivers of elderly stroke pa-tients to participate in the discharge plan,and the influencing factors are complex.Multi-party collaboration can effective-ly enhance the participation of caregivers of elderly stroke patients in the discharge plan.
