Abstract:Postoperative ileus(POI)is a very common and potentially serious iatrogenic gastrointestinal motility disor-der after surgery. If there is a delay in the recovery of gastrointestinal motility after surgery,it can lead to internal environ-ment disorders, malnutrition, and infection, which increase the risk of other severe complications.NLRP3 inflammasome is an important component of the innate immune system, mediating the activation of Caspase-1 and the secretion of pro-in-flammatory cytokines IL-1β/IL-18 in response to microbial infection and cell damage.NLRP3 inflammasome may play a role in POI through various mechanisms, such as regulating inflammatory responses, constructing a neuroinflammatory en-vironment,affecting gut microbiota balance, and inducing pyroptosis.Moreover,NLRP3 inflammasome is expected to serve as a new therapeutic target, which can improve POI by acting on NLRP3 inflammasome.
