Effects of chicory and poria cocos compound on blood uric acid,creatinine,and urine volume in rats with hyperuricemia and renal injury

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effects of chicory and poria cocos compound on blood uric acid(SUA),creatinine(SCr),and 24-hour urine volume in rats with hyperuricemia and renal injury.Methods Sixty rats were ran-domly divided into a normal control group(NC group),a hyperuricemia and renal injury model group(M group),a chico-ry monotherapy group(C group),a poria cocos monotherapy group(T group),and a chicory-poria cocos compound group(C-T group),with 12 rats in each group.Except for the NC group,the other groups were administered yeast and adenine by gavage for 4 consecutive weeks to establish a rat model of hyperuricemia and renal injury.After successful modeling,the C,T,and C-T groups were administered chicory extract,poria cocos extract,and chicory-poria cocos compound ex-tract,respectively,by gavage.The NC and M groups were administered an equal volume of normal saline once a day for 5 consecutive weeks.The levels of SUA,SCr,and 24-hour urine volume were measured at weeks 1,3,and 5 after the inter-vention.Results ① Compared with the M group,the SUA levels in the C and T groups decreased at week 5(all P<0.05),while the SUA levels in the C-T group decreased at weeks 3 and 5(all P<0.05).At week 5,the SUA level in the C-T group was lower than that in the T group(P<0.05).② Compared with the M group,the SCr levels in the C and C-T groups decreased at weeks 3 and 5(all P<0.05),while the SCr level in the T group decreased at week 5(P<0.05).At weeks 3 and 5,the SCr level in the C-T group was lower than that in the C and T groups(all P<0.05).③ Compared with the M group,the 24-hour urine volume increased in the C and T groups at weeks 3 and 5(all P<0.05),while the 24-hour urine volume increased in the C-T group at weeks 1,3,and 5(all P<0.05).At weeks 3 and 5,the 24-hour urine volume in the C-T group was higher than that in the C and T groups(all P<0.05).Conclusions The chicory and poria cocos compound can reduce SUA and SCr levels and increase urine volume in rats with renal injury caused by hyperuricemia,and the effect is better than that of chicory or poria cocos monotherapy.
