Abstract:Ferroptosis is a novel form of regulated cell death distinct from necrosis and apoptosis, closely associated with various physiological mechanisms. It is characterized by unchanged nuclei, intact plasma membranes, mitochondrial damage, and is typically accompanied by intracellular iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation. In recent years, research on ferroptosis in reproductive system diseases and germ cells has advanced rapidly. This article reviews the regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis and the effects of related external environmental factors on male germ cells across different species, aiming to expand the research scope of ferroptosis and provide new insights for further investigating its role in the regulation of animal reproductive physiology.
