Abstract:Against the backdrop of the booming global livestock industry, the issue of feed resource shortage is becoming increasingly severe.Concurrently,a substantial amount of waste leaves is generated from urban greening and forestry production, with traditional disposal methods causing both resource waste and environmental pollution.Co-symbiotic fermentation using lactic acid bacteria and yeast can significantly enhance the nutritional value of the resultant product:crude protein content increases, while crude fiber content decreases;levels of crude fat, vitamins, and minerals also improve, demonstrating favorable application effects in livestock and poultry farming.Adopting this technology to ferment waste leaves for silage production holds dual significance for resource utilization and environmental protection. However, research on the preparation of silage through co-symbiotic fermentation of lactic acid bacteria and yeast is extremely limited, and studies on microbial community adaptability tailored to the characteristics of waste leaves—high lignin and low sugar content—remain insufficient. This article elucidates the characteristics of lactic acid bacteria and yeast, their fermentation mechanisms, and the symbiotic interactions in their co-fermentation process. It summarizes existing fermentation methods and application outcomes of fermented leaf feed, provides examples of nutritional composition changes in leaves after fermentation with lactic acid bacteria and yeast, and cites research on the application of fermented feed in livestock, poultry, and aquatic animal farming. The aim is to offer insights for the conversion of waste resources into feed.
