Abstract:In 2018,the scarlet ibises kept at the Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo began exhibiting breeding behavior, and by 2021,a total of 11 individuals had successfully reproduced and survived.During the incubation and chick-rearing process, fights among breeding groups and food competition among nestlings often cause some chicks to fall from their nests each year.To ensure the survival of these fallen chicks, caretakers initiated hand-rearing practices for the scarlet ibis. After several years of exploration, both the hand-rearing techniques and survival rates have significantly improved. In 2022,2023,and 2024,8,10,and 11 hand-reared chicks survived, respectively. This article discusses the artificial feeding formulas, feeding methods, and chick growth and development in the hand-rearing of scarlet ibis, aiming to provide references to their artificial rearing.
