Abstract:Prednisolone is widely used in the treatment of various diseases in dogs and cats due to its anti-inflammatory,anti-infective,antiallergic,and immunosuppressive effects. However, the long-term effects on cardiac structure and function remain unclear. In this case,a dog with myxomatous mitral valve disease(MMVD)developed sudden meningitis during treatment and received oral prednisolone for 11 months.During routine cardiac reexaminations, significant changes in cardiac structure and function were observed. These cardiac alterations reverted several months after discontinuation of the medication. This article documents and analyzes the effects of long-term prednisolone use on cardiac structure and function in dogs with mitral valve disease, aiming to alert clinicians to the cardiac impact of prednisolone and optimize drug combinations in the treatment of chronic and concurrent diseases.
