Investigation on Newcastle disease virus antigens and antibodies in Yuxi City
He Shuai
Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the immune antibody levels and infection status of Newcastle disease virus(NDV)in chickens in Yuxi City.A total of 1 600 chicken serum samples and 800 pharyngeal swab samples were collected from the jurisdiction of Yuxi City.Serological and pathogenic testing were performed using hemagglutination and hemagglutination inhibition(HA-HI)assays and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)techniques.The results showed that the NDV antibody positive rate in Yuxi chickens was 87.81%(1 405/1 600),with intensive farms showing 91.92%(1 103/1 200)and free-range farms 75.50%(302/400).The highest seasonal antibody positivity occurred in autumn(89.75%,359/400),while the lowest was in spring(86.25%,345/400).The NDV antigen positive rate was 0.38%(3/800),with intensive farms at 0.25%(1/400)and free-range farms at 0.50%(2/400).Antigen positivity peaked in winter(1.00%,2/200)and was lowest in spring and summer(0,0/200).The study indicates that the NDV herd immunity qualification rate in Yuxi exceeds China's national standard of>70%,confirming effective population immunity. The findings clarify the NDV immune antibody levels and infection status among chickens in Yuxi City, providing valuable insights for the prevention and control of Newcastle disease in the region.
