Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the infection and prevalence of Q fever and Chlamydia abortus in sheep within the Yulin region.Using a two-stage probability sampling method, ovine serum samples were collected from large-scale farms across eight counties/districts.A total of 1 853 serum samples from 109 sheep farms were tested for antibodies against Q fever and Chlamydia abortus using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Additionally, polymerase chain reaction(PCR)was employed to detect Coxiella burnetii(Q fever pathogen)in 10 vaginal swab samples from aborted ewes and Chlamydia abortus in six samples. Results showed individual and flock-level positivity rates for Q fever antibodies were 11.98%and 38.53%,respectively,while for Chlamydia abortus antibodies, rates were 12.14%(individual)and 43.12%(flock-level).The individual co-infection rate was 8.90%.Pathogen detection revealed 4/10 samples positive for Q fever nucleic acid and 5/6 samples positive for Chlamydia abortus nucleic acid. This study indicates widespread infections of Q fever and Chlamydia abortus in Yulin sheep, urging heightened attention from authorities and farms.
