Abstract:ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(ω-3 PUFAs)play a significant role in enhancing animal growth performance, immune regulation, and meat quality improvement. However, their deposition efficiency in muscle is influenced by multiple factors, including dietary sources, synthesis pathways, and feeding management practices. This article summarizes the key functions of ω-3 PUFAs and their three primary sources, with a specific focus on analyzing the core factors affecting their deposition efficiency:an imbalance in the dietary ω-3/ω-6 ratio inhibits desaturase activity, thereby affecting the conversion of α-linolenic acid(ALA)to eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA)/docosahexaenoic acid(DHA);ruminal biohydrogenation in ruminants leads to PUFA losses;and differences in fatty acid absorption mechanisms between monogastric animals and ruminants.By reviewing these aspects, this article aims to offer valuable insights for optimizing feed formulations and enhancing the nutritional value of animal-derived foods.
