Abstract:A Chinese domestic cat was brought to the veterinary hospital due to inability to walk after jumping from a high floor.Palpation revealed pain in the left femoral region, and X-ray examination confirmed a comminuted fracture of the left femur.Blood gas analysis and biochemical tests showed elevated levels of potassium, creatinine, and urea nitrogen(among other parameters)beyond the reference range. The cat exhibited frequent attempts to urinate without producing urine.Ultrasound examination confirmed urinary obstruction due to a distended bladder.Following the principle of'treating the most critical condition first'(prioritizing urinary obstruction over the fracture),the cat underwent urinary catheterization and received fluid therapy. After one day of treatment, potassium levels and heart rate normalized.Subsequently, fracture repair surgery was performed.Postoperative care included continued fluid therapy for three days, with blood gas and biochemical parameters returning to normal. After removal of the urinary catheter, the cat resumed normal urination with appropriate urine volume and color.Sutures were removed two days later, and the cat was discharged. At a one-month follow-up,the cat exhibited normal walking and urination.
