Abstract:Olfactory receptors are the most important bioactive molecules for dogs to perceive volatile odor information in the external environment. On the main olfactory mucosa, olfactory receptors perform their functions in three steps:spatio-temporal expression, ligand recognition, and signal transduction. The construction of allogenic expression system is an important method to study the function of olfactory receptors in dogs.In order to interpret the behavioral mechanisms of dog feeding, estrus mating, defense, and exploration, this article reviewed the existing reports on the localization, quantification, functional domain and signaling pathway of the olfactory receptor gene families on the main olfactory mucosa, which will help the scientific breeding management and application of dogs.
