Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of hepatitis A virus(HAV),hepatitis B virus(HBV),hepatitis C virus(HCV),and hepatitis E virus(HEV)infections in wild macaques in Guangxi.Serum samples from 67 wild macaques in a Guangxi nature reserve were tested for HAV-immunoglobulin M(IgM)antibodies,HEV-IgM antibodies,HCV antibodies, and HBV surface antigen(HBsAg)using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Nucleic acids of HAV,HBV,HCV,and HEV were detected using PCR fluorescent probe assays. Results showed that HBsAg and HCV antibodies were all negative. The positive rates for HAV-IgM and HEV-IgM antibodies were 1.49%(1/67)and 4.48%(3/67),respectively.No HAV,HBV,or HCV nucleic acids were detected, while HEV nucleic acid positivity was 1.49%(1/67).The study indicates that wild macaques in Guangxi can be infected with or carry HAV and HEV,but no HBV or HCV positive individuals were detected.
