Abstract:A 4-month-old female British shorthair was admitted to hospital with symptoms of salivation, vomiting, ataxia and epilepsy. After clinical examination, laboratory examination and computed tomography angiography, congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt was confirmed. It is treated with a combination of conservative drugs and surgery, including diet restriction, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory,seizure control, and surgical placement of a decreasing ring.Within two months after the operation, the blood ammonia level and all indexes of the cat returned to normal. The results showed that after the stable condition was stabilized by medical treatment, the choice of surgical placement of the reducing ring was very important for the survival time and quality of life of cats with congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt.
