Abstract:Glutamate,as the primary oxidative fuel for mammalian intestinal epithelial cells,is a specific precursor for the synthesis of bioactive substances within the intestine and plays a significant role in the healthy development of animal intestinal tracts. This article mainly reviewed the functions of glutamate in the intestinal tract, including its participation in amino acid metabolism, intestinal mucosal immunity and neurotransmitter function. The expression of glutamate transporter in intestinal epithelial cells was mainly discussed, and the possible regulatory mechanism of glutamate in the body was explored, with a view to providing references for the scientific application of glutamate and the treatment of animal intestinal diseases.
