Abstract:The aim of this study was to explore the effects of dietary magnolol supplementation on growth and antioxidant function of piglets, and to screen the optimal dosage of magnoliol supplementation in piglets.A total of 192 25-day-old weaned piglets with similar body weight and health were randomly divided into four groups with four replicates in each group, and 12 piglets in each replicate.Piglets in each group were fed a basal diet supplemented with 0(control group),200(test group 1),400(test group 2)and 800 mg/kg magnolol(test group 3),respectively.The pre-feeding period was 1 week and the formal experiment period was 4 weeks. The results showed as follows:Compared with the control group, the final weight, total weight gain and average daily gain of piglets in the test group 2 were significantly increased(P<0.05),while the feed to gain ratio was significantly decreased(P<0.05).The diarrhea rate of piglets in all magnolol supplementation groups was extremely decreased(P<0.01).Compared with the control group, the serum total antioxidant capacity of piglets in the test group 2 was significantly increased(P<0.05),and the malondialdehyde level was significantly decreased(P<0.05).The serum superoxide dismutase activity of piglets in all magnolol supplementation groups was significantly increased(P<0.05),and the highest value was 73.17 U/mL in the test group 2.Studies have shown that adding magnolol to piglets'diets can effectively promote their growth, improve intestinal health, and enhance their overall antioxidant function.According to the data of all indexes, the optimal addition level of magnolol was 400 mg/kg.
