Effect of naringin on the reproductive performance of the old Guangxi Ma roosters

Abstract：The experiment aimed to investigate the impact of different concentrations of naringin added to the basic diet on the reproductive performance of old Guangxi Ma roosters.Sixty healthy and similarly sized 70-week-old Guangxi Ma chicken breeders were randomly selected and divided into four groups,with 15 chickens per group.The control group was fed a basic diet,while the control group,N1 group,N2 group,and N4 group were supplemented with 0.1％,0.2％,and 0.4％naringin in the basic diet,respectively.The formal experimental period lasted for 60 days.The results showed that after 30 days of the experiment,the semen volume,sperm density,straight-line motility rate,and sperm viability of the breeders in all experimental groups were significantly higher than those in the control group(P＜0.05).After 60 days,the N2 and N4 groups of breeders showed significantly higher values in sperm curvilinear velocity(VCL),average path velocity(VAP),straight-line velocity(VSL),and amplitude of lateral head movement(ALH)compared to the control group(P＜0.05).The fertilization rate of the N2 group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P＜0.05),and the chick health rate of all experimental groups was significantly higher than that of the control group(P＜0.05).Compared to the control group,the levels of luteinizing hormone(LH)and testosterone(T)in the serum of the breeders in the three experimental groups were significantly increased after 30 days of the experiment(P＜0.05),and the level of follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH)in the N2 group was significantly increased(P＜0.05);after 60 days of the experiment,the levels of FSH and LH in the serum of the N2 group breeders were significantly increased(P＜0.05),and the levels of T in the serum of the breeders in the three experimental groups were significantly increased(P＜0.05).The study indicates that naringin can improve the reproductive performance of old Guangxi Ma roosters by increasing the levels of reproductive hormones,improving semen quality,and sperm motility performance,with the addition of 0.2％naringin showing relatively better results in improving the reproductive performance of old Guangxi Ma roosters.
