The effects of 14 Chinese herbs on peripheral blood lymphopoiesis and monocyte phagocytosis in broiler chicken

Abstract：In this study 14 Chinese herbs were chosen to study the effects of Chinese herbs on periph-eral lymphocyte proliferation and monocyte pinocytic activity. They were Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam (Zh-uru), Astragalus membranaceus (Huangqi), Rheum palmatum L. (Dahuang), Codonopsis pilosula (Dangshen), White peony root (Baishao), Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. (Gancao), Dendranthema indicum (Yejuhua), Morus alba L. (Sangbaipi), Cynanchum atratum (Baiwei), Atractylodes lancea (Cangzhu), Red thorowax root (Chaihu), Silktree albizia bark (Hehuanpi), Radix isatidis (Banlangen) and Lonicera japonica Thunb (Jinyinhua). The results showed that the Morus alba L. and Red thorowax root enhanced the proliferative activity of chicken blood lymphocytes(P<0.05), and Rheum palmatum L. and Lonicera japonica Thunb. inhib-ited the phagocytic activity of peripheral monocytes(P<0.05).
