Anesthetic Effect of Clove oil on Danio rerio

Abstract：The present study investigated the anesthetic effect of clove oil on Danio rerio at concentrations(20 mg/L, 40 mg/L, 60 mg/L and 80 mg/L) and temperatures(23 ℃ and 27 ℃). The re-sults showed that the anesthetic time decreased with increase of doses, while the recovery time displayed a reverse trend. The anesthetic time was the longest at the temperature of 23 ℃ and 27 ℃ with the concentration of 20 mg/L, this time was significantly longer than the other treat-ments(P<0.05), while the recovery time was the shortest among all the groups at the same concen-tration(P<0.05). Both the anesthetic time and the recovery time decreased with the increase of the temperature under the same concentration. Above all, the lowest effective anesthetic concen-tration of clove oil was at 40 mg/L concentration. The anesthetic effect of clove oil on Danio re-rio was obviously influenced by temperature.
