Abstract:Sensitive skin(SS)is a complex condition with multifactorial pathogenesis,inclu-ding impairment of the skin barrier function, dysbiosis of the skin microbiome, abnormal cutane-ous nervous and vascular response, and dysregulated immune and inflammatory responses.Current treatment strategies primarily focus on restoring the skin barrier using moisturizers containing ce-ramides,hyaluronic acid, and other ingredients to reduce transepidermal water loss and enhance barrier function. Moreover, utilities of TRPV1/TRPV4 antagonists and anti-inflammatory agents can reduce hypersensitivity of sensory nerves, resulting in decrease in neural activity and allevia-tion of discomfort. In addition, probiotics can modulate microbiota imbalance, leading to ameliora-tion of cutaneous inflammation. Thus, sensitive skin requires comprehensive treatment that can ad-dress multiple pathways simultaneously. This review aims to summarize recent advances in the pathogenesis of SS,and analyze the interactions among various pathogenic contributors, providing a scientific basis for future research and clinical interventions.
