Epidemiological analysis of new cases with leprosy during 1996 to 2015 in Shaoguan city of Guangdong province

Abstract：Objective:To study the epidemiological characteristics of leprosy in Shaoguan city during 1996-2015, in order to provide basis for development of preventive measures for leprosy under low epidemic state.Methods: Data about newly detected leprosy patients over the last 20 years were collected.Epidemiological characteristics were analyzed.Results: Both the detection rate and prevalence rate were in a downtrend, with an unequal distribution.The total mean delay of diagnosis was 58.75±64.31 months, mainly multiple bacterial (MB) cases (73.08%).The rate of grade-2 disability was 23.08%, and the disease duration was significantly longer than that of nondisability(t=2.16,P<0.05).67.31% of newly found cases with leprosy was discovered by out-patient clinic.Conclusions: The leprosy was under well control in Shaoguan city over the last 20 years.
